■ A new mystery tale from the director of "The Judgement of Fahrenheit" and "Autumn Leaves"
Decades after the earthquake recovery, Tokyo, Japan, was in the Daiei era, a time of great economic growth and a burgeoning civilization.
In the prime real estate of Ginjicho, rows of stores selling dazzling kimonos and luxury goods lined the streets.
Located on the edge of the vibrant main street was a small shop called "Tsubakiya Cosmetics," a long-established cosmetics store that had been in business since the Edo period.
The current owner, Tsubakiya Komachi, is the only daughter of the previous owner.
After the previous owner fell ill, she was promoted from poster girl to young owner at the age of 25, a position that proved to be quite elusive.
That day, at dusk, a young woman knocked on the store's door.
She appeared to be in her early twenties. Her delicate figure, dressed in trendy Western clothing, exuded a faint scent of perfume.
The woman presented me with a letter written in neat handwriting. There's a lip mark in a conspicuous place.
"I need your help finding the owner of these lips."
"What do you mean?"
And so the two quietly begin their strange detective story.
