This collection of his exquisite short stories, originally serialized in the legendary magazine "Combat Comics" (Nihon Shuppansha), is now being published in the original format, faithfully recreating the serialization order and color covers!
*Works not previously published in the book will also be included!
The last apprentice of the legendary Shigeru Komatsuzaki, Ueda Makoto remains renowned as a military illustrator. His debut manga, "PANZER (Complete Edition)," published in June 2018, was well-received by many fans.
Following on from that, as the second installment of our project to republish Ueda Makoto's masterpieces, we are publishing a collection of his exquisite short works, selected from the precious manuscripts stored by Ueda Makoto and no longer available to read.
Combat Comics, the magazine in which this work was published, is a military and war comic magazine first published by Nihon Shuppansha in 1989. Each issue featured a different theme of weaponry, military history, or battle, and was primarily a compilation of serialized works. Prior to the magazine's launch, military and war stories were often limited to short, intensive serializations in so-called boys' magazines, model magazines, and boys' history books. There was apparently no magazine that could be called a specialized military and war comics magazine. As a result, many manga artists specializing in war stories and military themes, such as Kobayashi Motofumi, contributed to the magazine, and it remains a legendary magazine among fans.
This issue features a carefully selected selection of works related to the Imperial Japanese Army that were originally published in "Combat Comics." These works are published in the original magazine format, recreating the four-color front pages from the original serialization, something that was not possible in subsequent volumes.
