Dekiru Nihongo": A comprehensive Japanese textbook that cultivates the ability to connect with people and society through "communication skills."
"Dekiru Nihongo" was born in 2011 through a collaboration between Japanese language school teachers and two publishing companies, ALC and Bonjinsha. It underwent numerous trial runs and took six years of refinement, incorporating feedback from numerous Japanese language learners and teachers, to create a textbook for learners and teachers that was "born and nurtured in the field."
The "Dekiru Nihongo" series aims to develop the ability to "communicate oneself and one's thoughts" and "communicate and converse in Japanese." It places emphasis on "communication skills" in Japanese communication, cultivating the ability to connect with others. "Dekiru Nihongo" is a textbook that is enjoyable for both teachers and learners.
The "Beginner-Intermediate" level builds on what was learned in the "Beginner" level and expands upon what students can do with others, situations, and settings.
★About the Second Edition
More than 10 years have passed since the release of the "Dekiru" series. Society and people's attitudes have changed, as have the environments surrounding learners. Therefore, to ensure that learners' learning is more relevant to the times, we have expanded and revised the content and published the second edition.
★Three Major Features of "Dekiru Nihongo"
1. A syllabus aligned with behavioral goals will help you increase your Japanese comprehension!
To be able to do something in Japanese, it is important to have a solid understanding of "what to say in a given situation." In lessons using this book, students and teachers share situations and topics, and the teacher challenges students with "what to say here and now," while learning necessary sentence patterns and vocabulary. These "situations" and "topics" are also repeatedly covered. Repeating previously learned material improves communication skills in Japanese.
2. Sharing situations and contexts improves "communication skills"!
Plenty of illustrations make the context clear at a glance. The teacher and students then share this situation and practice the conversation. Practicing in situations that students would likely encounter in real life broadens the scope of their conversations. Teachers who observe lessons using "dekiru" are amazed, exclaiming, "The students can speak so well!" This is due to the students' growing ability to communicate.
3. By focusing on "speaking in chunks," you'll develop paragraph structure!
One of the goals of this book is to develop paragraph structure. While most beginner-level textbooks feature short dialogues of one or two sentences, this book is designed to encourage students to speak in chunks, from beginner level onwards, with a focus on one sentence, followed by a list of sentences, followed by a paragraph. The goal is to connect sentences as much as possible and enable students to express themselves and their thoughts at a reasonable length. Learners will be able to fully experience the joy of "communicating and talking" in Japanese.
