Product Introduction
Drawings 1/48 Vultee Vanguard Mk.1/J10 Plastic Model Kit.
The Vanguard was a single-seat fighter aircraft developed and manufactured by Vultee in the United States for export shortly before World War II.
Internally designated "V-48," the first prototype, with a narrowed nose like that of a liquid-cooled engine aircraft to reduce air resistance, made its first flight in September 1939.
The Swedish military ordered 144 V-48Cs, designated "J10s," with the nose reverted to its standard configuration. However, shortly after production of the ordered aircraft ceased, the Lend-Lease Act of 1941 prohibited exports to Sweden.
As a result, the US military assigned approximately 50 aircraft to fighter training squadrons as "P-66s," and the remaining 100 aircraft were transferred via the UK to Canada under the nickname "Vanguard" as part of a Lend-Lease program.
This aircraft was decommissioned in February 1942 and given to the Republic of China Air Force. However, many were lost during transport accidents or training, and only a few were actually received by the National Revolutionary Army.
While deployed in combat, the aircraft engaged in combat with Japanese aircraft, but most were lost in Japanese air raids while parked, resulting in its retirement without achieving significant results.
