Product Introduction
This is a Micromill "1/350 scale U.S. Navy SSN-683 USS Perchy Nuclear Submarine (Late Model)" plastic model kit.
Perchy is a U.S. Navy Sturgeon-class nuclear submarine. It was laid down at Ingalls Shipbuilding in 1970, christened and launched in January 1973, and joined the Atlantic Fleet the following August.
After being transferred to the Pacific Fleet in 1977, it was primarily used for special missions, such as intelligence gathering in Soviet territorial waters.
During Operation Ivy Bells in 1979, it eavesdropped on Soviet military submarine cables beneath the Sea of Okhotsk, and is said to have recovered missile debris from the seabed after a Soviet ballistic missile test.
