State and Society from an Economic Perspective (Readings: The Thought of Postwar Japan, Vol. 8)

From postwar reconstruction during the occupation period, through economic growth, the expansion and collapse of the bubble economy, and the current prolonged recession, ideas such as Marxism, civil society theory, ecology, and postmodernism have undergone various transformations in postwar Japan along with economic development and the development of economic policies. This course traces the evolution of postwar ideas from the perspectives of money and markets, capitalism and socialism, and the state and community.
