Palliative Care March 2025 Issue/Special Feature (Latest Summary! Palliative Care for Urinary Symptoms)

Urinary symptoms are often encountered in palliative care settings. This is due to the fact that many of the target patients are elderly, which means that the target population is a later age group in which urinary symptoms first appear, and the impact of the cancer lesion itself on the urinary tract. Furthermore, urination is a physiological activity, and it is necessary to respect the individual feelings of patients, such as the shame and dignity that accompany it. As such, urinary symptoms require a variety of responses, but currently there are limited opportunities to learn specialized knowledge about them. This article summarizes urinary symptoms from a multifaceted perspective, incorporating urology specialists as well as specialists in related fields and palliative care specialists.
