Replaceable counterweight no. 29 (weight 96 g) for Pro-Ject RPM and X turntables with 9CC EVO tonearm
Counterweight no. 29(1940875029)for turntables RPM 5, RPM 9 Carbon, RPM 9.2, X1, X2, Xtension 9, 2-Xperience DC and 6-Perspex (see configurator below).
Counterweight weight 96 g.
To increase resistance to vibrations and improve damping, the weight is filled with Sorbothane® on the back.
The counterweight is designed to provide the optimal tracking force on the phono cartridge. Precisely adjusted tracking force guarantees the best possible groove tracking and excellent reading of the recorded information. Correctly adjusted vertical tracking force (VTF) is a necessary condition for obtaining the best listening experience when listening to music from a turntable.
The choice of the most suitable counterweight depends on the type of turntable, the type of tonearm, and the weight of the installed cartridge.
PRESSURE ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURE (VTF)
The correct pressure range is individual for each cartridge, and the recommended values for a given cartridge can be found in the cartridge's instruction manual. The most typical pressure values for current cartridges fall within the range of 1.3 to 2 grams.. (There used to be much more of this). Sometimes clamping force values may be given in units of mN (millinewtons). The conversion is simple: 1 g = 10 mN. The tracking force is adjusted using a rotating counterweight mounted at the end of the arm.
By turning the counterweight, try first to achieve a position where the arm remains in balance (rises), and the needle floats freely a few millimeters above the surface of the LP. After a slight tilt up or down, the arm automatically returns to its original position. Then hold the metal part of the counterweight in a fixed position to prevent it from rotating, and with the other hand set the value to 0. (zero) on the rotating scale - initial position - align zero with the setting line on the arm tube. Then, by rotating the entire weight and scale, it is possible to set the desired pressure values.
Alternatively, other tools such as mechanical scales can be used. (usually included with the turntable) or digital scales (they must be purchased separately), specially designed for measuring pressure in cartridges. This setting is, of course, the most accurate when using a digital scale, e.g.. Pro-Ject MEASURE IT E or MEASURE IT S2 (accuracy to 3 decimal places).
